I have been reading and researching a lot about people that are currently doing, and that have actually done the Great Loop.

Great Loop paths |
The question is, because we are currently leaning towards a Trawler, altho the case for the sailboat is not yet sealed, we need to estimate the running costs!!!
So I came across Captain John site, which is very informative, but the point that is very sobering is about the fuel costs of doing the great loop. At least diesel trawlers are on the right track in terms of low GPH.
But basically the site strongly advocates to use a sailboat, even if not using sails as the GPH for a sailboat doing the great loop is less than 1 gph, often close to 0.5 gph!
Very sobering numbers indeed. The best gph that I have seen for a great loop odyssey in a 37' trawler was 1.7 gph (more on this boat later)!!! The best ones generally are actually in the 2.5 - 3 range. So forget dual engines.
Anyways, food for thought, do explore the Captain John site further,
