Realizing the Cruising Dream

This is still a bit nebulous right now, but this is how we are thinking of achieving this Cruising Dream.

We have been spending a lot of time on Yacht World, probably me more, the little boy excited about looking at boats!  :)

But, let me get back to the dream here...

Many people have this dream, the key here will be turning it from fantasy to reality.

The cruising dream usually goes something like this:

  1. Quit job
  2. Sell house
  3. Buy boat
  4. Move aboard
  5. Go cruising
Go Cruising typical plan

All do-able, however I am told most fail this route. As I am a project manager by trade, the process I am proposing for us, hopefully will be much more detailed and trackeable!!! I promise I will try no not make it too boring! :))

I will not get into all the details yet, but in general this is where we will vary. Probably this is a more conservative approach.

  • Not quit corporate job, instead apply ask for a 6 month leave of absence for end of 2015
  • Not sell the house, but rather rent it (more on that later). This inspiration for this is from the book An Embarrassment of Mangoes by Amm Vanderhoof.
  • Learn
  • Boat selection process
  • Move aboard, liveaboard until late 2015 (yes, through winter in Toronto
  • Go cruising

Still pretty high level, but slightly different than the assumed process.
