I know…Minimalizing is not a word. Downsizing probably is the proper term. Downsizing though has a bad corporate connotation, so I prefer the word Minimalizing instead. To me it means, living minimally from a consumer point of view, What do you really need? Do you really need 10 pair of jeans? 10 pair of shoes? And that’s just for personal wear. The same applies to your living needs.
Amazing and great tiny house
However, there is a movement in the US (and growing around the world), it is called the Tiny House movement. I actually really like and subscribe to the concept of not needing:
- So many material possessions
Unfortunately our North American culture has become all about consumerism - So much living space
You probably do not need as much interior space as you think, instead tiny housers, become more connected to their natural environment
Unfortunately, Tiny Houses and such are still pretty much deemed illegal in much of Ontario, unless you really want to live far from anything civilized. And it’s not about living poor, these tiny house are not cheap to build and have high end finish, but rather living rich with your time and environment.
Living on a boat falls into the same category as the tiny house movement as far as I am concerned, and its legal (duh?).
Also, there is a documentary on Netflix called “Tiny: A Story About Living Small”, really it should be titled “A Story About Building Small”. If your Canadian, watch it by using for example Anonymous for Firefox.
Google Tiny House and have fun for many hours (or even days of discovery).
