No, I am not just talking about young people simply living in vans because they cannot afford rent, I'm really talking about people choosing to live in a van to be more free and independent, most of them are actually older (tend to be single), and not just men, many women as well.
Would I do it? Maybe, probably not, specially in Canada! Yes, it sounds a lot like camping full time, which living on a boat is also similar to. Although living on a boat (unless a micro cruiser such as Paradox) is palacial compare to living in a van. Still good parallels and ideas can be drawn.
Anyways, there's a whole subculture about it at Cheap RV Living. There's lot of good practical good information about minimalization and downsizing.
As for our Cruising Dream, the dream is alive and well...progressing slowly and cautiously, but moving forward...will keep you posted on new developments!
