This is already news for about a month, but I only found out about it last week.

Back to shopping in US only for West Marine |
As much as people like to not like them (Worst Marine, etc), they provided a lot of products that were otherwise difficult and very pricey to source in Canada.
I was so happy when they arrived in Canada...10 years ago already if I remembering correctly. This is unfortunate for Canadian boaters, we will most likely be back shopping on US soil.
Buy online, ship to a postal service, make a weekend getaway with the savings
Online still works well, and if you do want to pay shipping and duty (depending on the size/pricing of the items you buy), you can always do like I do and get things delivered to a us address such as CBI USA.
The savings usually affords me a couple nights and shopping in Niagara Falls/Buffalo. Not very Canadian you say? Well, I am voting with my feet against high taxes, all legally of course. For example, I have not bought an article of clothing in Canada for years. When the same exact product is over double the price here, it makes no sense even with the exchange to buy it locally. Take a free weekend trip, courtesy of the beaver taxes! Remember 48 hours gives you $800 of duty free per person, that's $1,600 per couple for a weekend (Friday to late Sunday), all legal.
Lookout for sales at West Marine Canada
Back to West Marine in Canada, each of them will close as their leases expire, keep an eye on your favorite store for clearance sales.
