Getting up on a plane (part 2)

I received the following graphic from a member on the Macgregor 19 Sailboat group on Yahoo. I think it really help explains what getting up on a plane is for people like me (read idiots)! Coming from sailboat world, this is a new concept to me.

Planing

This picture is very clear for visual people like myself.

This should be felt as follows:
  • You will know that you are planing when the nose rises up and blocks the view forward
  • Then the nose goes down and speed increases.
  • The boat is now riding down it's own bow wave and it takes much less power.

It might be challenged w 30HP, but I'll try again!

Cheers!
