In Canada, you are now required to have a Pleasure Craft Operator license to pretty much operate anything with a motor (okay, 10HP and above). Even though I have handled many crafts in the past. This is actually a good thing. I actually think everyone, regardless of whether they have a kayak, sail only would benefit from getting the license. So that we all know the same basic rules on the water. I thought it would be a breeze, but I did learn quite a bit. Guess the adage that a dog is never too old to learn new tricks applies!
There are many places online to study and get it. I used Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons to received mine. The price is one the most reasonable, and you can use a discount code to save you an extra $10. I used "GMK9ZXA", but search around the web for more codes.
You also get membership to Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons. Its a great benefit as there are probably many other courses that I am interested in.
