Continuing my series on trawler styles, the next layout style is called a Sundeck.
Sundeck
I hesitated to make it a refinement of the double-cabin or to be its own entry, because that really is what it is. It is a double cabin, for which the aft cabin, in this layout there is a patio / terrace on the top. This a great idea, and for a great to for entertaineming guest, outdoor lounging and simply sipping margaritas!

Typical sundeck trawler |
Most sundecks are canvas covered, but many also have a hard side and top. Some even a wet bar and fridge.
They are fantastic to live in, but if you are trawlering in open bodies of water, you really have to pay attention to the wind factor as they are a major appendage for the wind to bite on.
The sundeck makes a great live-aboard, but is less salty in terms of seaworthiness. I mention it again, but take great care when planning on crossing open bodies of water. Other than knowing this limitation, the sundeck is perfect, for canals and living aboard, as it gives plenty of extra living space.
