Book review: Honey, Let's Get a Boat: A Cruising Adventure of America's Great Loop

This book:   Honey, Let's Get a Boat: A Cruising Adventure of America's Great Loop was recommended as a great read to learn about doing the "great loop", the book also said Guidebook Included. I am not sure if the book contained a separate guidebook, leaflet?? as I bought mine used...

Here is a great tip, when looking for books, you can buy used on Amazon, as well, if  it is out of print, another great place is called BookFinder.com. I have found many books very cheaply there.

And one more funny thing, as I mentioned, I bought this book used and, guess what, it is actually signed by the authors! Neato!

Back to the review, well I thoroughly enjoyed this book, was disappointed that it ended, it felt like I was traveling with them.

The book gives you a very good idea of what doing the loop is like. Don's humor is very good too. People complain a bit about his views, but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I enjoyed the end of the book where they detail the actual costs of doing the loop. You always wonder as you hear so many people saying how much the boat cost to maintain, but in the end, it looks doable, as long as you are not dining out every night, and don't spend your time in marinas. I love being on the hook, so this is easy for me to relate to. Don also validates, that really twin screw is not needed.

So as far as guidebook goes, unless there is something else attached that my copy is missing, it is poor, no map to speak of, except the very high level one for each section. I love maps, but that's me. But if you're going to have the title say guidebook included, that does not do it.

Rather, I really enjoyed reading the book as an adventure for a couple, that make good recommendations about training with Power and Sail Squadron first, and I agree to that. They also have a fun time visiting eastern USA and Canada too.
