Boat selection criteria: Livability - Galley for the liveaboard

We're all for minimizing, but we do not want to end up camping permanently!!!

Not our idea of our new home!

Some of the tings we want, today, let's start by reviewing the needs in the galley.

Decent galley for us means:

  • Refrigeration
  • A minimum of a bar fridge size wise, a freezer would be nice...those boat drinks need ice, no? Not a fan of ice boxes. Ok, for tepid beer, but as someone told me, two reasons that a couple split on a boat, lack of a water heater and refrigeration! We shall have both!

  • Power Outlet
  • Power outlet required for microwave/toaster oven when at dock. This could also be used with toaster, Keurig. I am addicted to my Keurig, what can I say?

  • Double burner stove and oven
  • Pretty standard on decent boats.

  • Single sink
  • See Refrigeration above. Hot water needed, probably on demand..

  • Well lit
  • Who likes cooking in the dark! Right.

  • Storage and accessible
  • Storage for the kitchen wares needed aboard, and of course storage for provisioning.

  • Counter space
  • Often difficult to find in boats, at least the dining table can serve for increasing counter space during meal preparation.
So, what do you guys think? Too demanding? What is realistic? Anything else?
