How to select a trawler: styles: 2) Double Cabin

Another style that seems fairly common is the Double Cabin. This is the trawler where there is usually a v-bert at the bow, and a full private cabin at the stern. The aft cabin usually also includes its own head.

Marine 38 Double Cabin

This is my preferred layout, giving 3 distinct areas on the boat, both cabins and the galley/main salon area. The main salon and galley is often combined, but not always, sometimes the galley is forward below. I do like this last layout as it gives plenty of living space to lounge and entertain, but it seems very rare to find, the only models I have come across like these are the Senator 32 and 35. The 32 is definitely smallish

Nice useable layout on a 35

This layout has sidedeck spacious enough to safely walk around. One or two steps gets on the trunk cabin and three more steps to the flybridge. In passing, a flybridge is almost a must requirement in my opinion as it gives you such a high and fantastic view of the water in front and around.
